    Premature Birth

I was diagnosed with placenta previa pretty early in my pregnancy, then at 20 weeks they also identified a possible accreta. At 24 weeks and 3 days I started bleeding and was admitted into Labor & Delivery of Avera Hospital, then spent the next 2 1/2 weeks there bleeding daily. On October 12, I started cramping so my doctors did a scan and could see my placenta starting to abrupt along with my daughter's heart rate beginning to drop. I had an emergency c section and my daughter was born at 27 weeks and 1 day weighting 2 pounds 6 ounces. She is almost 3 weeks old and is doing good every day but we have a long road ahead of us.

    Christmas Day

Emma is 74 days old! She is so close to going home but needs to start gaining a little better first. She has been off oxygen for a few weeks now and had been nursing and bottling great. Only thing is she doesn’t like the formula so we have been drinking straight breast milk for 4 days. As long as she gains consistently with that she’ll get to go home. Emma does still have a small hole in her heart (pda) so we’ll have to monitor that for a while. Other than that she’s a pretty typical preemie. We are just excited to get her home with her brothers. Have a very merry Christmas everyone!
