    Name
    Yokanda Burke
    Injury/Illness
    Breast Cancer

Hi, my name is Yokanda, and I'm fundraising for six months of living expenses as I recover from major surgery. On August 19th, I'm scheduled to have the first part of my three-stage double mastectomy with reconstruction surgery. On June 15, 2022, I was diagnosed with Ductal Carcinoma In Situ or DCIS (Stage 0 cancer) in my left breast and both breasts were diagnosed with atypical ductal hyperplasia in April 2022. Aside from this, I was diagnosed with a rare sleep disorder named Idiopathic Hypersomnia in 2012. As the condition progressed, my symptoms limited my ability to perform enough to provide effectively for my family. My lawyers have filed an appeal to the SSDI review board, and thus far, it's still pending.

I'm a single mom of 3 unique and supportive kids, ages 22,12 and 8. My eldest son recently moved to MN to begin a new career, so the additional support is no longer available. Myself and younger children are displaced and staying with my mother, who is on a fixed income, so my contribution is vital to sustaining our livelihood. Over the next six months, I must heal and rest properly to recover fully and prevent complications and excess procedures. Worrying or trying to make things happen to avoid disconnects will not work well for my already complicated situation.

Thank you in advance to every donor that God will tug on your heartstrings to assist us during our time of need. Your selfless servitude and support will forever be greatly appreciated!

    Peace & Abundant Blessings...

    One Day To Remember

Big thanks to Carin and the staff from One Day to Remember, Inc for a memorable outing with my children! We were blessed on August 12th, 2022 (one week before my surgery) to have a memorable outing of our choice. We had our pictures taken by an amazing photographer named Jacey, saw some of God's wonderful creatures at Zoo Atlanta, ventured through space at The Illuminarium, and quench our appetites at Metro Diner Cafe. We laughed, joked, and shared memorable conversations that strengthened our bond. I'm so grateful and appreciative to raise humans that are not only compassionate but humbled and thoughtful. I may be experiencing many life-altering health battles but my assurance rests heavy in the knowledge of whose I am, who I am and why I was created. My soul is rested, my heart is selfless, my spirit contrite, and my mind is sound. We wished my eldest could have been there with us, even though he was thousands of miles apart.

Many may look at my situation as irrelevant, pitiful, or even empathetic. I live life in full optimistic mode and try to raise my children as such. Life is bigger than our circumstances, lacks, and situations. Whether we know it or not, everything is intentional and promised to work out for our good. My faith is a force to be reckoned with; it supersedes the various realities on this Earth. I believe my purpose will impact many lives directly and indirectly via the trials, struggles, and experiences that I have and will overcome!  This setback is a setup for the greatness we will produce on the Earth-in sickness and in health!

Those that have contributed thus far, thank you for lessening the burden for me so that I can recover from surgery #1 effectively. Those that will give after reading this update, your contributions are magnanimous and forever grateful! More updates to follow...
