My name is Tanisha and I am the mother of Baby Alanna. I am a type one diabetic and developed pre eclampsia at 31 weeks and was hospitalized. At home we have a 2.5 year old daughter Paisley who had to stay with her grandma and grandpa while I was in the hospital being the hospital is about an hour and 15 mins away from our home depending on traffic. I seemed pretty stable after watching my blood pressure for a week to the point they were talking about sending me home. So my boyfriend took the drive home since he had work in the morning and my mom was going to pick me up once they discharged me. The night I turned 32 weeks we discovered I had gained 18.5 pounds in 2 days in water weight and it had started effecting my heart and lungs to the point I was having a hard time breathing. They decided to deliver. I had to call my boyfriend and tell him to drive all the way back and to bring my mom with because it was time. When Alanna was born she was born with low blood sugars and had to get a little help with breathing. We are now 34 weeks gestation and attempting to start learning how to eat through a bottle and breast feeding. They say she will probably be discharged at 37/38 weeks. My boyfriend started back working today and I am going between the NICU during the day to be with Alanna and home at night to pick up Paisley my 3 year old from daycare or a family member and spend dinner time and sleep with her until the next morning. We bring Paisley to the hospital 1 day a week to have a visit with her baby sister who she loves dearly.
