    Name
    Mary Koski
    Injury/Illness
    Brain or Internal Organ Injury

Mary was life-flighted to Children's Hospital in Minneapolis on 11/01/2020. An AVM (ArterioVenous Malformation) in her brain had ruptured and her brain was bleeding. They rushed her into surgery to put a drain in her skull to help relieve the pressure. Mary was in a coma for three weeks after this first operation. Then she had an allergic reaction to some of her meds, and developed DRESS syndrome (Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms is a rare drug hypersensitivity reaction.) Mary was transferred to Gillette's Children's Specialty Healthcare on 12/14/2020. Her Dad and I stayed at the hospital with her for six weeks before Dad had to return home to help my Mom and Aunt with our three younger daughters (10, 7, 5 years old) and go back to work. He took six weeks of unpaid medical leave. I have stayed with Mary from 11/01/2020 and will continue until we go home ~02/01/2021. We are 3 1/2 hours from home. We will transfer to Children's Hospital St. Paul  on 01/08/2021 for her Craniotomy with AVM resection surgery. Once she has recovered from the second brain surgery she will be transferred back to Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare to complete her Rehabilitation. Mary is trying her best to be strong and not give up, but she really misses her dogs, sisters, dad, Grandma and the rest of her family and friends.
