    Premature Birth

At 6 weeks pregnant, Dylan and Katie found out they were expecting identical twins. At 16 and 3 we were diagnosed with stage 2 TTTS and were sent to Minneapolis for surgery. 16 and 4 we were at stage 3 and had surgery at 2 that afternoon. Surgery went fine and we tried to rest that evening. The next morning, at 16 and 5, on November 2, 2018, we lost our donor, baby b, Hons Jeremiah. Weeks passed between bed rest and trying to go back to work, my water broke at 20 and 2. I was put back on home bed rest until December 26, 2018 when I was at 23 and 3 and was admitted to the hospital until baby a, Luke Joseph, was born. At 32 and 6, March 2, 2019, Luke was born via C-section and was taken to NICU minutes later and has been there since.

    First birthday

March 2, 2020 was Luke’s first birthday! We had his party on February 29, 2020 and also remembered Hons.

Around 6 months we knew the birthday party theme had to be Mickey Mouse☺️

    2 weeks

Luke has been home for 2 weeks today! We are so happy he’s home. It’s been interesting trying to figure out his schedule and working around it, but we are definitely blessed to be able to keep him home. I miss him getting weighed every day (we are pretty sure he’s well over 8 lbs). He’s moving up to size 1 diapers already!

Yesterday was 6 months since we lost his twin brother, Hons.

Home and mom back to work

We’ve been home for 4 days! Mom got super exhausted but got some help from family and friends. It’s been hard having a complete opposite schedule as dad but we are getting by. Mom is so focused on Luke that she’s forgotten to eat so trying to get that into our routine. Mom also went back to work Monday after about 6 months.

    Home tomorrow??

Looking very promising to be heading home tomorrow!! Which will be 4 months since I was admitted. 1/3 of a year has been spent in the hospital. That’s insane!

    Mom staying overnight

I have decided to stay one night in the hospital with Luke. This will make 70 days, total, for me but will help us get more comfortable with his cues and such before he comes home. First time mom nerves are super strong so I’ve been freaking out ever since the doctor asked about me staying yesterday. Today is 51 days for Luke and I go back to work in a week so some time with him home before I go back would be great.

    No more feeding tube

Luke got his feeding tube out today! I needed some good news today as it was my due date for the twins. His brother, Hons, is definitely helping him through all this.

    Feedings improving!

Luke is up to 70% feeding! He’s done 2 days in a row now of at least 2 full bottles (just under 60 mls) each day ? continued prayers that he keeps improving and can come home soon ????

    Circ

Luke just got circumcised. He did great during. The after, not so much. Wouldn’t eat for dad and just wanted to be bounced. His first 15 minutes diaper check was a mess. Will see how the next 15 minute diaper check goes. It’ll be a long night and next couple of days of major healing.

    Acid reflux meds started

We didn’t go to the hospital yesterday because we needed to get stuff done around the house. Doctor called yesterday morning and said they will start acid reflux meds in hopes it makes him more comfortable to eat more, get the feeding tube out, and be closer to coming home. Circumcision will happen this week, I hope.

    Off thickener

Thickener was on a 24 hour trial and doctor didn’t think he was doing much better than without  so she stopped the thickener. Acid reflux is still really impacting him so we’re bringing a swing in to be able to keep him more upright after feedings.
