Emmett was born with 22q11 deletion syndrome. Because of this, he was born with several heart defects, a cleft palate, and ended up needing a tracheostomy and feeding tube. He is dependent on a ventilator to breathe, has had one open heart surgery so far, and multiple heart catheterization. He is still dependent on tube feeding and will have many more surgerys in his lifetime.
