    Hello,

Our son was born November 3rd at 7:31 am via planned C Section, weighing 9 lbs 8 ounces and 22 inches long. My wife is a type 1 diabetic and due to being type 1 diabetic, the average baby during pregnancy is only carried for 37 weeks as they typically have larger babies and the risk of still birth goes up past that.

Some time in the week leading up to delivery our son decided to switch from being head down to sideways, requiring him to be removed feet first. When they got his shoulders out his head got stuck. What was seconds that felt like minutes but he was removed and taken to his area to be looked over. His o2 was 40%, after some suction, light tapping on his back with a device and oxygen he was able to get up to 80%.

They moved him up to the NICU for a transition period. With momma being a type 1 there is always a chance he would need help with his blood sugars as his body has never had to produce any until being born. His sugars are supposed to be over 50, he was reading 27 to 30. They gave him some glucose and a bottle and was able to get it up to 40. By the next feeding 3 hours later he was able to get it up to 67. While i was holding him and feeding him his o2 stayed around 98 to 100%. He was cleared to leave the NICU and I was able to take him down to see his momma who was patiently waiting to be able to touch and hold her son for the first time as she was not able to after delivery.

We had a good 12 hours after leaving the NICU, I received many baby snuggles and really got to bond with my son.

At 4am the nurse came in to check on him. They put him on a o2 sensor. His o2 was dropping and got to 78%. He was having rapid short breaths as well. They admitted him to the NICU at 6 am.

They started him on IV, dextrose for the blood sugars, antibiotics, oxygen. They put various monitors on him including 2 o2 sensors for hand and foot to make sure the levels are reading the same.

They feel he has pneumonia from the fluid on his lungs at birth. His blood sugars still need help as well. He has to stay for atleast 1 week with the antibiotics. He has the short quick breaths that they are hoping with the antibiotics will clear that up. If this does not clear it up we will go back to the drawing board. As the Dr said various test will be ran and our stay could be a month or more.

    Keep us in your prayers!

Thanks for joining us on our journey!

    We are home!

Hello everyone, after 10 days in the hospital, we finally got to come home. When we finally got released it didn't feel real. We got use to spending our day in the hospital and then going to the hotel to sleep only to wake up and do it all over again. We met some really cool families who all had similar yet different situations going on with their kids. We swapped information and have continued talking and supporting one another even though we can't see each other face to face like we use to.

Our daughter stayed with my parents during our stay in the hospital. She got use to staying with them. When it came time to leave that night we came back home my folks said good bye to us and our daughter said good bye to us as well ready to follow them out the door. It made me happy yet sad at the same time. On one side she had so much fun with them but the other is you don't realize what the situation is doing to her as well.

Our daughter at the age of 2 is ready to be a mommy just like mom. If our son cries she says oh no and wants to help out. Always trying to imitate us.

Thank you to those who have kept us in your prayers!
