Hi - My name is Emily! I was born at 30 weeks and 2 days, however my heart condition was identified at 19 weeks and 2 days when my heart rate at my anatomy ultrasound was 275 bpm. My incredible care team did there best to stabilize my heart while I was inside which included giving my mom lots of heart medications to try and get them to me as well as two fetal procedures to administer medications right to me. All of this was unsuccessful and so at 30 weeks, my heart function had decreased to a level that delivery was needed. My doctors didn’t think I would make it to 30 weeks and definitely didn’t think I would make it through delivery, but I am a fighter! I am in the NICU at Mayo Clinic - St. Mary’s Hospital getting the best care possible as my team works to figure out the best way to treat my condition (which everyone is still trying to figure out what exactly that is).

Emily has had a rough 24 hours with going back into SVT. Emily’s heart tolerates this for a period of time, typically not more than 30-36 hours before it shows signs of deterioration. The doctors are working hard at increasing her medications to try and convert her heart medically without using cardioversion (electric paddles). This is the 3 time Emily has switched into SVT for a longer period in her two short weeks of life. Hoping she stables some so we can have some family time with our older girls for Thanksgiving.
