    Injury/Illness
    Brain Tumor

Dylan Wichterman was diagnosed with a rare cancerous Brain Tumor on Aug 13th, 2021.  Neuroblastoma tumor with FOXR2 activation.  His parents took him to Rochester, MN where they removed the Brain tumor and he had 31 treatments of radiation and chemotherapy weekly in Rochester.  He got a break in November 2021. Then since has been getting chemotherapy in the hospital for 4 days every month and a one day chemotherapy the next week.  On March 14th 2022 Dylan was crossing a busy highway with his snowmobile and got into an accident and was struck by a pickup. He was ambulanced to Thief River Falls, MN and from there life flighted to Fargo,ND.  He was in surgery for internal bleeding and several broken bones and fractures throughout his body for several hours. They were not able to fix everything in that first surgery because he was not stable enough for longer surgery.  On Wednesday, March 16th 2022 he went back into surgery to close his abdomen and repair his right leg that was broken in several places. They had to put a titanium rod through both his femur and tibia with screws. His left lung then collapsed that night and he had a long road of recovery ahead. He was in the hospital until April 8th. He was then transferred to a rehab building where he still remains now.  He is learning to walk again and how to do daily activities.  Both of his hands where fractured and a broken collar bone so it is very difficult for him to even get dressed.  It is estimated that he will be released the end of April from rehab.  But then get transferred back to the hospital to receive more chemotherapy.  Eventually when we can go back home Dylan will need rehab multiple times a week for several weeks. The last 8 months there has been multiple trips to Rochester, MN.  Fargo, ND and several medical appointments in between all the hospitalizations. Dylan is a very good spirited kid and likes to joke around with his nurses. He brings joy to all the people he has meet in the last 8 months and everone tells him how great he is doing to be going through all these difficult times for him and his entire family.  He is a very strong kid and has a very big heart as well.
