Our Story

Hello and thank you for reading our story. We are the Salas Felix family and on 10/16, Mom was diagnosed with severe preeclampsia resulting in baby Mason being born at 35 weeks and 4 days.

Unfortunately Mason was born not able to breathe on his own and intervention was needed immediately. He was whisked off to the NICU where he underwent HIE and the severity of his injuries were unknown. He needed cooling therapy as soon as possible. The picture submitted was my husband and I’s first time being able to hold him at more than 72 hours old and since being in the NICU our toddler has not been able to meet his baby brother yet. Mason was diagnosed with Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) and Wolff Parkinson’s White (WPW).

This whole experience has been a scary and shocking mentally, emotionally and financially. Unfortunately Mom does not receive any paid time off so we are trying to manage as much time off as possible with Mason and to help healing and recovery. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you

Family Updates

11/17

Thank you everyone for the love!

Things have been moving fast lately. Mason turned one month old yesterday which was also his due date! We are happy he is moving in the right direction fast. He has passed feeding test, car seat test and we are hoping to be home this week! Sadly, dad went back to work but we are so grateful for him doing so. Mason will have lots of follow up appointments after discharge so we are hoping we can manage those well.

Maddox is very excited to meet baby brother! We are working on being gentle and having safe hands haha. He’s already the best big brother.

11/6/25

Mason is three weeks old today and he finally surpassed his birth weight! We are working hard on building strength and stamina for him to be able to come home. Doctors would also like to see him eat enough milk orally and go without SVT (heart episode) for 5 days. He is currently at 28 hours without one, but he has gone up to 6 days previously.

Unfortunately, Michael only has one more week of paternity leave. We are hoping Mason gets to come home before he goes back to work, even if just a few days.

Maddox is enjoying watching videos of Mason and even FaceTiming with him more often. This makes our hearts happy and even more excited for them to meet!

Thank you for the continued love and support. We are eternally grateful 🤍

Update 10/28

It’s hard to believe Mason will be 2 weeks old tomorrow. All things considered he is doing really well.. breathing tube has been removed and he is responding beautifully to heart medication. With the difficult start he’s had the doctors and nurses are blown away by him!

Maddox is doing well, but is anxious to have his family all together again. We’re lucky to be able to each spend some one on one time with him, and get some energy out at the park! He can’t wait to play with his little brother.

Mom and dad are stressed but hopeful this back and forth and being separated is coming to an end. We can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel! We are both so grateful for the positive response to our fundraiser, and we cannot thank you all enough.
