The Mateer Family
Our Story
My wife Amanda and I (Nathan) were expecting our first child due on Nov 10th, 2025. 5 days early, our baby girl Collins arrived healthy into the world. There were no signs of complications initially although we had a long labor and close to a C-Section. After what felt like a long few days in the hospital, we finally got to take our girl home. After only about a week of being home, Collins started acting like she was in pain. We were advised to take her to the hospital. We spent 8 hours in the ER, transferred to Regions NICU for 2 nights, then transferred to Childrens NICU for a week. After a long process of trying to find out what was wrong, turns out Collins was having seizures and hade a brain bleed and is slightly ischemic. She is now on seizure medication while the bleed heals. This could potentially affect her development as she grows up. We now have several doctors appointments across the Twin Cities and another program through our school district that will closely monitor her development to ensure she hits her milestones without abnormality. We feel blessed to have the support and care team we had at Childrens but are saddened Collins had to spend so much time in the NICU, as well as the parents spending our precious maternity leave away from home.
