The Hoogland Family
Our Story
On March 13th, Emma was taken by ambulance and admitted to the PICU with Influenza B and complex atypical necrotic pneumonia. Since then, she has been continuously hospitalized, moving between the PICU and the main floor as complications have come and gone. She is currently back in the PICU for the third time, and the road to recovery is still ongoing.
Emma is an award-winning competitive dancer with so much energy and heart. She’s the kind of kid who lights up every room she walks into—always ready to show you a dance and make you smile. Watching her fight through this has been incredibly hard, but her strength continues to shine through.
We have been by her side every step of the way. Because of this, I had to step away from my private practice, resulting in a significant loss of income. At the same time, Chantelle faces an uncertain future with her employer, adding even more uncertainty for their family.
We also have three other daughters at home, and trying to balance time between the hospital and being present for them has been incredibly challenging. There have been additional expenses for travel, meals, parking, and occasional lodging just to stay close and support all of our girls during this time.
There is a lot of uncertainty in medical expenses, along with the broader financial strain from lost income and upcoming changes to our insurance.
