This is our baby boy, Kendrick Mydrell Maynor lll. He is a twin and both babies were born at 34 weeks, due to severe maternal preeclampsia. On June 28th baby Kendrick went into Super-ventricular tachycardia, which is a very fast heart rate that can reach up to the 230-270s. He was then transferred from regions NICU to children’s MN NICU for the need of a higher level of care. 

Once at Children's, he was given a medication called adenosine to help treat the super-ventricular tachycardia. He received 3 doses to correct it. The NICU team also decided to draw blood for labs to see if there was any underlying causes. They wanted to check for an infection in his blood and urine. They also did a lumbar puncture that is a needle placed in the lower back to test the brain fluid for signs of infection. Once all his labs came back they all showed positive for an Ecoli Meningitis infection. Ultimately leading to his bacterial meningitis infection. He was immediately placed on strong antibiotics to fight his infection. 

That night he was inconsolable and needed morphine around the clock to help him rest. There were 5-6 episodes where he would jerk his neck forward, arch his back vigorously and stare into space, so they decided that it was best to monitor for seizure activity since that is common with bacterial meningitis since there is a large amount of inflammation of his brain. The next day he needed an MRI of his brain to check if there was large fluid pockets. The MRI came back showing that there were two pockets of fluid on his brain. 

The neurology team is following closely to monitor those MRIs to make sure the fluid doesn’t get larger, because then that will lead to a surgical intervention on his brain. Currently we are in a waiting phase where he is continuing his antibiotics for 28-30 days, labs to monitor for infection/inflammation markers, and a series of MRIs to closely monitor his brain and inflammation.
