We’re the Wither family — a family of six based in Louisiana, figuring out life with humor, honesty, and a lot of heart. In August 2024, everything shifted when Ross, our husband, dad, and resident pancake maker, was diagnosed with Uveal Melanoma — a rare and aggressive form of eye cancer. The tumor is large and located in the back of his eye, which limits treatment options and has made this diagnosis particularly challenging.

Ross is a stay-at-home parent to our four kids, and he’s the glue that keeps our family running. Since his diagnosis, we’ve been navigating a whirlwind of specialist visits, out-of-state consults, and tough decisions. The initial treatment plan called for plaque brachytherapy — radiation that would require not one but two separate plaques, meaning four surgeries under general anesthesia, along with multiple recovery periods and isolation each time. The logistics and risks felt overwhelming.

Just when things felt overwhelming, we found a glimmer of hope: a clinical trial out of state for a targeted therapy called Darovasertib. It could shrink the tumor and potentially reduce or eliminate the need for radiation. But because this care is out of network and out of state, we’re facing significant financial strain — including costly consultations, travel, lodging, and out-of-pocket medical expenses.
