Our Story

Elijah Daniel Garland came into the world at 28 weeks! He is small but beautiful in every way. He is receiving care in the Maple Grove Hospital NICU where we will be for a few months. His early birth caught us by surprise and altered our plans for saving and maternity leave. This has left us in a rough spot but we are blessed to have our little boy even in the hard times!

Family Updates

Coming Home!

We are finally homebound! After 9 and a half weeks in the NICU Elijah has been cleared to go home! He is eating all of his food by mouth now and his weight finally broke 6 pounds. His growth is steady and in a place that make the doctors comfortable for discharge. Now we get to move on to the next chapter of having our little family at home!

Feeding Frenzy!

Elijah is scoring top marks on all his tests! He is eating very well from his mouth. As of last week he was eating around 50% of all his food by mouth and the rest was through his feeding tube. Today was the first day that he transitioned into eating more than 75% of his meals orally! With that he is starting a new feeding plan where he eats what he wants, when he wants. If all goes well, next week could mean a discharge! We are very excited to take him home for the first time and start our life as a family outside of the hospital.

Moving on up!
  • Lots of updates since the creation of the profile! Elijah moved to the upper floor of the NICU after 3 weeks. He is growing everyday and getting stronger and stronger!
  • As of today he is now 5 pounds 3.8 ounces
  • He is no longer on any breathing assistance and can breath completely on his own
  • He has started feeding by mouth but it’s still a long journey ahead
  • We are expecting to remain in the hospital a few more weeks, but Elijah’s growth has given us hope that we will be leaving earlier than originally expected!
  • Jeremy had been working part time for the time being to help keep up with bills and to help the time pass quicker.
  • Esther is back to work for the time being since she has finished her 6 weeks recovery period.
