The Hergert-Atkinson Family
Our Story
My name is Sadie. I’m a mother and a scientist who lost my job due to layoffs , right before my health began to decline. Since then, I’ve been navigating a difficult and uncertain medical journey. I’m still in the process of getting a diagnosis, but right now, cancer is one of the most serious concerns. Along the way, I’ve developed significant neuroinflammation that’s affected my memory, cognition, and ability to function day-to-day.
It took me nearly three months to find a new job, during which time I had no income and was undergoing testing and treatment. Even now, I’m missing work for medical appointments as I fight to get answers. The financial toll has been heavy. I’ve fallen behind on rent, and while my landlord has been compassionate, I urgently need help catching up so I can stay in my home and continue receiving care.
This has been one of the hardest seasons of my life — but I’m still fighting, for my health and for my children. Your support helps me stay housed and gives me the stability I need to keep moving forward. Thank you for seeing me and giving me a chance to breathe.
Family Updates
I recently received lab results indicating myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and a confirmed TP53 deletion, which worsens my prognosis.
A PET scan showed malignancy remains at the site of my previous lumpectomy, with new masses developing. Surgery is now necessary. Treatment is complicated by TP53 deletion and coexisting autoinflammatory diseases (CAPS and Yao syndrome), making it high-risk.
I’m seeking support to step back from work temporarily to focus on surgery, imaging, bone marrow biopsy, and specialist care.
Your donation will help cover rent and essential bills while I prioritize my health.
Thank you for your support during this critical time
