The Okoronkwo Family
Our Story
Shortly after his 4th birthday our brave son Malik , was diagnosed with leukemia after unexplained fatigue, bruising, and an uncontrolled nose bleed. It felt like our world stopped the moment the doctors spoke the word “cancer.” Childhood leukemia, most often the acute lymphoblastic type, is unfortunately the most common cancer in kids—about 30% of childhood cancers fall into this category, and its symptoms include fatigue, bruising, pain, and fever.
From the first rounds of chemotherapy to countless doctor appointments, our family has been on an emotional rollercoaster—scared, exhausted, yet constantly inspired by Malik’s incredible courage. He is a true warrior, showing us every day what hope really looks like.
Leukemia treatment is a marathon, not a sprint—it typically spans months and includes several phases: induction, consolidation, and maintenance therapy, sometimes followed by radiation or a bone marrow transplant. Through it all, Malik fights with a smile that lights up every hospital room and reminds us to hold onto hope no matter how dark things get.
Help Me Bounce gives us a voice, a space to share Malik’s journey, and a community to lean on. We believe in miracles, in the power of love, and most of all, in our son’s strength. Together, we can help him bounce back—one brave day at a time.
