    Premature Birth

What was a “normal & healthy” pregnancy changed in an instant. After months of trying we finally were pregnant with baby #2 in our family and things were going very well, no complications or reasons to be worried. Little did we know that sometime around week 27, the placenta supporting our babes life stopped growing. This happened with no indication where my wife could tell soothing was happening. At an ultra sound on week 32 of our pregnancy we learned that our son’s life was in a dangerous territory.  To add to the stress, my wife’s vitals started to increase into equally dangerous place. As a result of these complications our beautiful boy arrived 2 months early. My wife was hospitalized for several weeks following the birth to deal and heal from complications post-delivery.  These sudden and unexpected complications not only have made an impact on our family mentally but financially as well.  We are grateful to have wonderful families and employers but no-one can ever be fully prepared for the challenges that medical emergencies present.

    Beginning to Add Up

Whoa boy. Elliot is 3 months old now... we can hardly believe it. He is continuing to grow big and strong as each day passes but what we are realizing quickly is that our pocket book is rather week. With the numerous doctors visits and special formula we are really beginning to see our savings steadily decrease which makes us very nervous. We are so grateful for organizations such as Spare Key who are here to help families like ours.

    Happy at Home

3 weeks.... hard to believe that it has been three weeks that we have been home with Elliot. The nights are long and the bags under our eyes are large but I would not change it for the world. Our days since being discharged from the NICU are full of cuddles and running to and from medical appointments to monitor our sweet boy's growth. While we have been enjoying the time as a family of four we now are beginning to tally up the large medical bills that came with this new status.
