The Bunker Family
Our Story
I was currently admitted into labor and delivery in the middle of February for High Risk pregnancy. This was due to complications, preeclampsia and very high blood pressure and were told I would have to deliver via c-section and our baby would have to spend some time in NICU. To make matters even more difficult I could not work. This took a toll on our family because of travel cost between home and the hospital limits how often my husband and 3year old daughter could be by my side during this difficult transition.
On 3/2/26 my blood pressure spiked to the point I was getting meds pumped in my body every so many minutes. Finally they got it to stabilize and I had to be monitored for 5 hours of blood pressure readings. During this time I was also put on the NST monitor for the baby. This was also another long 4 hours as the baby kept dipping low and coming back up.
At 1:15am on 3/3/26 the OBGYN made the call I was going to have emergency c-section. My heart sank as I heard these words. The emotions hit high because I didn’t know if the baby or myself would make it out ok. As I called my husband who was home, telling him he needed to rush to the hospital because I was having emergency C-section I could hear the fear in his voice.
At 2:31am on 3/3/26 we welcomed our baby girl Lainey into the world weighing 3lbs 7oz. After they cleaned her all up I got to see her for a few seconds before they brought her up to NICU. This was hard for me because this would mean a long NICU stay since she was premature at 32weeks 2days. I was not able to see her for 48hrs because I was on magnesium. This was also hard because most moms get to have that bonding time with their newborn baby. After surgery I was in the hospital for another week trying to get my blood pressure stable so I could go home. I finally got to go home, however lots of tears were shed because I was leaving my baby behind.
Lainey is still currently camped out in NICU. She is really fighting in there to get her feeds to where they need to be and not have any breathing spells. Her sister who is 3 sure wants her home and cries everyday because she wants to see her sister but can’t go up the hospital due to certain restrictions for cold and flu season. This just breaks mom and dad’s hearts because we also don’t like leaving Lainey when we make countless trips up the hospital during the week.
The financial strain of hospitalization, NICU care, and travel expenses is very overwhelming for our family. With lost of income and mounting bills, we are facing uncertainty during what should be a joyful time. Your support can help ease this burden so we can all be together.
