    COVID19

On November 9th 2021, I tested positive for COVID-19. In a typical case, the symptoms of COVID go away by day 10 or shortly after that. Unfortunately, that was not the case for me. I have what is now being called long covid.

Since November I have dealt with deliberating pain, extreme fatigue, brain fog, shortness of breath, severe headaches, facial numbness, facial pain, extreme pain in my legs, tingling/shooting pains down my arms, tremors, stuttering, dizziness, and IBS.

I was able to travel to Mayo clinic in Rochester Minnesota for their long covid care. I had my first appointment on April 19th, and didn’t get home until April 30th. During this time, I stayed at a hotel near the hospital. I saw over 20 doctors. Underwent more tests than I can remember.  I was officially diagnosed with long covid. They also saw distal autonomic neuropathy (from covid), my blood pressure is all over the place, my cytokine levels are all high. I was diagnosed with covid induced IBS. I have to travel back to Mayo on May 18th for a colonoscopy. I was also diagnosed with pelvic floor tension myalgia, and neurocognitive disorders.

They are recommending 12 weeks of covid rehab, pelvic floor therapy, reconditioning therapy, speech therapy, cognitive therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy.

I have been out of work since November 9th 2021. The missing income has severely affected my family of 6. Not only have I lost my income, but we have gained more expenses then we had when I worked. From unexpected therapy charges(that insurance won’t cover) to unexpected gas for all of the traveling to Minnesota and now all of the traveling to appointments every week.

I am asking for help to help financially support my family during this time. I am not sure when I will return to work, if I will ever be able to. There is so much unknown with long covid and healing. I appreciate any help during this difficult time.

    Thank you!

    Life update

Since my time at Mayo, I have been attending my long covid rehab appointments, reconditioning physical therapy appointments, pelvic floor physical therapy appointments, and cognitive behavioral therapy appointments. I have at least 3 appointments a week, normally 4. My therapies have been teaching me a lot, and I have made some progress. I unfortunately still struggle with all of my symptoms, but I’m learning how to live with them.

Mayo called me today (6/9/22) and they want me to come back at the end of August for a week to spend some time in their neurology department, to run some more tests.

I would be lying if I said this was easy. I am exhausted. Learning how to live differently is hard. Please continue to keep me in your thoughts and prayers.
