Our beautiful Rhea (pronounced like a "ray-a" sunshine!) was born early weighing just 3 lbs 12 oz alongside her identical twin sister Ellyana. She has been diagnosed with a large (5mm) Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) that is a persistent opening between the two major blood vessels leading from the heart. This is causing her body stress; the left side of her heart is enlarged and she breathes fast as blood is getting into her lungs. She is scheduled for an open-heart surgery since the primary procedure to install a piccolo device was unsuccessful as her PDA was too big to close with their largest device. Rhea is our fighter! We have spent 38 days in the NICU and counting. Any support during this time is greatly appreciated.
