Story
My name is Marcella Garcia, I am 66 years old and live in Central Texas. I am seeking assistance to help pay for transportation to my dialysis treatments. Neither Medicare or my insurance cover transportation costs.
The company that was providing my transportation, notified me on September 24th that they would be closing their doors effective September 30th. This left me very little time to try and find alternative transportation. I dialyse three times a week in Temple (about 36 miles from my home) on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I could dialyse in Killeen, but I am trying to begin home dialysis, and the Temple center provides the training.
I have contacted the Area Agency on Aging of Central Texas, the American Kidney Fund, Health and Human Services, the HOP (a local transportation service), my church and agencies listed on Google that provide transportation. There are agencies available, however, their cost is approximately $100 to $130 per day. An Uber is $96 per day. I simply cannot afford these costs.
I did have a volunteer however she was no longer able to assist me as her husband has Alzheimer's and his condition is no longer allowing her to drive me.
Thank you for your consideration.
