The Gilman Family
Story
On August 1st, Chris went to the ER after having severe stomach pain for 3 days. In the ER they did a CT scan and the scan showed a large mass in his colon. Chris was admitted to the hospital immediately. On August 4th, Chris had surgery to remove the large cancerous mass. The surgeon was going just 5cm of the colon on each side of the mass but when they got in there the large intestine was about to rupture and too damaged to save. They ended up removing the majority of Chris's large intestine. Chris temporarily has an ileostomy bag until he completes chemotherapy. Chris is still in the hospital as of August 11th. In 4-5 weeks Chris will begin chemo for 6 months. Chris will be out of work for quite a while and the oncology team has stated that Chris's job is high risk for infection while he's doing chemo so it's recommended that he doesn't work and if he does, not full time. Chris and his significant other of 15 years have 3 children.
