The Greenwell Family
Our Story
My name is Jenna, and I am the proud mother of Everett, my 6-year-old autistic son who also has ADHD and epilepsy. Everett is about to begin ADHD medication—a necessary step for his focus and learning—but one that carries a serious risk: this medication may lower his seizure threshold and increase his chances of experiencing seizures at school.
For Everett, close monitoring is not optional—it’s a medical necessity. Having a dedicated one-on-one paraprofessional is critical, not only to keep him safe if a seizure occurs but also to track seizure activity. Monitoring seizures is essential, because every episode provides important information that his neurologist uses to determine whether his medication needs to be adjusted.
Despite my repeated concerns, the school has focused almost entirely on Everett’s autism-related behaviors. They continue to collect data on his behaviors rather than recognizing the urgent medical need for a paraprofessional. I even explained that Everett is enrolled in Medicaid, and the district can be reimbursed for paraprofessional services through the SHARS program. Still, they minimized his medical needs. One teacher even attempted to downplay the seriousness of his seizures—despite acknowledging that his new ADHD medication could increase seizure risk.
Everett deserves to be safe at school. He deserves the support that will allow him to learn without the constant danger of an unmanaged seizure. I do not have the resources to hire a lawyer, but I know that when communities come together, real change can happen.
This website has already been a blessing to our family, and I am reaching out again to ask for your help. Please help Everett get the one-on-one paraprofessional support he needs and deserves to stay safe and thrive at school.
Everett is a bright, beautiful child with so much potential. With the right support, he can succeed. Without it, his health and safety are at risk.
Thank you for helping us fight for him.
