The Holcombe Family
Our Story
James Holcombe is 55 years old and has been my best friend and the best co-parent for our son. I have known him for 37 years and have watched him rise above the odds time and time again. Jim has experienced hardships in his entire life, starting with losing his mother at the age of 3 and having to be raised by his older brothers because of their fathers battle of addiction. These experiences, however, have created an amazing and resilient human being that has harnessed the value of being humble, kind and hard-working to rise above the challenges.
He has volunteers his time to help local youth football programs, and has frequently opened his home to help other disadvantaged males and has worked hard since the age of 15 to support himself and provide a stable environment for his son. In May of 2024 Jim was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer at the age of 54. After a year long fight and going through chemo, Jim was diagnosed with a very rare cancer; the prostate cancer had dedifferentiated into stage 4 small cell, castration resistant prostate cancer which has resulted in the need of more chemotherapy, possible radiation and yet another long journey of treatments to try and fight for his life.
Jim is unable to work as did before the diagnosis and his son has stepped up to help anywhere and everyway possible. Zac dedicates his every moment to help his dad, Jim get through this tough battle. At the same time, they could use some more support. It is difficult at best to make ends meet and find priceless, valuable time to spend with loved ones. The worry about how the rent will be paid, and how groceries will be bought, is a constant stressor, robbing Jim of time that should be spent making memories and special moments with his family.
No one facing a terminal illness should have to worry about the roof over their head or food on the table. He has spent his life working, being kind to the less fortunate, and supporting his son. He deserves to enjoy the days that he has left in this world more than anyone I know. When I found your website, I was filled with hope for this incredible man. And I am grateful for programs like this, that offer some hope and care in a persons darkest hours. Thank you most sincerely for any consideration to help Jim (James) in this difficult time. Any assistance at all with rent or utilities or food would be a true blessing.
