Story
Hello everyone,
We are the Holm family, James (dad), Kelsey (mom), Vinny (big brother), Boe and Blakely (boy/girl premature twins). Boe and Blakely were born at 34 weeks and 4 days due to Fetal Growth Restriction. Boe was born weighing 6 pounds 2 ounces and Blakely weighed 3 pounds. Since being born on March 6th, 2024, they have been in the NICU. Boe needed to be intubated right away and given a steroid shot to help his lungs develop, he now is doing better with his breathing, but is working on feeding and becoming stable on his breathing then he will get to come home. Blakely has been diagnosed with acid reflux and has a hard time tolerating her feedings. Unfortunately, there is no medicine they are able to give her to help with it. She has episodes where she will reflux and hold her breath causing her oxygen to drop as she tries to protect her airways. She is off her CPAP but has continued to need oxygen. She has only been fed via feeding tube to try to reduce her reflux, but it continues to happen. The doctors are hopefully she will outgrow it with time. She has shown us how big of a fighter she is for being a tiny peanut.
I (mom) have been out of work since March 4th, due to being hospitalized to monitor Boe and Blakely prior to a c-section. I started a new job in July of 2023 and was told that my Short-Term Disability Insurance would cover my 8 weeks leave, however I have been denied due to being pregnant before I started my insurance. Dad is having to cut back his hours at work in order to take and pick up Vinny from daycare while I cannot drive. On top of that, is having to travel close to 100 miles a day to drop me off and pick me up from the hospital.
We continue to have hope and pray that everyday our sweet little babies get bigger and stronger.
With love,
The Holm family
