The Hutchinson Family
Our Story
Taylor fell sick on July 3rd and was in the Emergency room by July 5th. Her eye became very swollen and red. She had a CT done and it showed infection and retinoblastoma like a tumor. We were admitted and MRIs were completed and she had to be sedated for official eye exam on July 10th. The eye exam confirmed that she has retinoblastoma. On July 15th, she is undergoing removal of the eye to hopefully remove all the cancer. Any support is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Family Updates
Yesterday we had a follow up with Taylors eye surgeon. He removed the patch (she didnt like it initially but loves that its off now). She hasnt really looked at herself yet. Her eye is stilled sutured shut and foam is under the sutures to protect the eye lid I'm assuming. Its was a very quick in/out appointment and no biopsy results were back until right after we left the appointment. He called this morning and stated there is no optic nerve involvement and that the results have been forwarded to the oncology team. When reading the biopsy results it does state that the choroidal invasion is present (minimal). This is a blood vessel into the eye (meaning small amount of cancer was found). But this is still good news since there is no cancer in the optic nerve and the optic nerve & soft tissue margins are negative for tumor. This is all based on what I've read about it. So now we wait to determine next steps. Should find out more on Tuesday and it is a full morning of appointments.
We get her sutures removed at 730 AM. Then we meet with oncology at 815 and 945. Then they just made a couple more appointments with child life @ 1030 and pediatric surgery @ 11 (I'm hoping it's just in case they recommend chemo and not meaning it's a for sure chemo need). What I've read is pediatric surgery would be who put a port in if its needed.
Taylor is loving playing with brothers and having mom/dad around all the time. Dad did go back to work Tuesday to get part of a job done and will be doing small jobs here or there that have been on the schedule for a while now.
In the time we have been waiting for results we got to go see family down in Decorah yesterday after our appointment. We also are getting ready for fair that is coming up in a couple weeks. We have chickens and pigs going plus a few other projects the boys have.
We have created t-shirts for Taylor and the ordering website will be coming out soon.
