Heather has devoted most of her adult life to raising her four wonderful children and supporting her husband. Last year, she was finally able to earn her graduate degree and got her dream job working for the schools.  She and her husband also bought a home which they were planning to remodel and live out their golden years in.  At the same time, she was preparing her youngest child to graduate from high school, helping to support her oldest child as he and his young wife navigated new parenthood and prepared to welcome their second child who was going to be born with a cleft lip and palate, and helping our aging parents.  Then in January of this year, days after welcoming her second grandchild, she got the news that she has Stage 3 Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma at the age of 47.

Since that time, she has continued to work as much as she is able while she goes through chemotherapy, and she will soon begin 2 years of immunotherapy.  We are requesting help for her to pay for the extensive medical treatments that are not covered by their insurance while she continues to receive treatment.  This would take a huge burden off of her and her family while she continues to fight for her life.

Heather is a constant support to those around her.  She is the glue that holds her family together.  Though her children are all legal adults now, she continues to give each of them a lot of support (babysitting grandchildren, making decorations for her daughter's wedding, helping them figure out career paths, helping her youngest find the finances to attend college, etc.).  Any support you are able to give will help Heather live more in the moment to enjoy those she loves and cherishes without the burden of mounting medical bills.

    Chasing Life

Our summer was stressful but I am SO thankful I am no longer enduring chemo. I finished my 6th round at the end of June. And in August, I got to see my daughter get married! What a blessing to be here for another momentous occasion! Although I will continue to receive immunotherapy treatments bi-monthly for 2 YEARS, my hair is recovering pretty well. My body still feels the effects of chemo. Although our medical system does not provide many resources or information regarding this part of treatment (maintenance & recovery), I'm thankful for the online resources I have managed to find. I have still missed some work due to fatigue and an infection, but so far my school year has gotten off to an amazing start! I LOVE my job. I love helping students and schools better support their students' social-emotional needs and plan suicide prevention and intervention! I feel SO fortunate to be able to keep working despite the days when I feel run-down. Even so, I never imagined my life would have taken such a turn. I'm thankful for all the love and support I have been shown in these past months and I'm hopeful because of it.
