    Down Syndrome

Our 4th child, a baby boy, Gibbson Kenneth “, was born Sunday May 2nd at 5:00 pm. After birth, he was having low oxygen levels and the nurses also noticed features resembling Trisomy 21, Down Syndrome. Gibbs went to Children’s later Sunday night and we followed shortly after with myself having strict discharge instructions.
Gibbson started on a cpap machine, then ping ponging back and forth between high flow and low flow oxygen. On the 18th day in the NICU, we gave him a diuretic to see if that would help pull the fluid off his lungs to help his pulmonary hypertension and it worked within 2 doses!
Gibbson also had an echocardiogram which showed an ASD and VSD. A follow up appointment showed that he has the most common VSD. The cardiologist has determined that Gibbson will need to have surgery in the next 2-3 months. He also had an appointment with an audiologist. We are happy to say his hearing is normal!
We spent 3 weeks in the NICU. Exactly 21 days, coming home on the 23rd of May! Our other 3 children were excited to meet Gibbson and finally have us all together as a family. We couldn’t have been able to be with our little boy if it wasn’t for the help of our parents and community! We know we have a long road ahead but we are so thankful and complete in love with our sweet boy Gibbs ❤️
