My name is Kenneth Pettis, I am 68 years old and have been in the medical field for over 20 years. I was first diagnosed with cancer in 2022. It seems like since I have been diagnosed with cancer and unable to work I have been unable to do the thing I love the most which is to help others. It is not easy being on this side of the equation needing help. Which is why I am thankful for the nurses and doctors at the cancer center at HCMC who helped to give me hope -In a since yanking me back from the grave of despair. 

When you receive a cancer diagnosis its like that is all you can see, deal with or process...It robbed me of my ability to work and support myself and do the things that bring my happiness and joy. All the while the bills and responsibilities never stopped coming in. In the midst of all of my struggles my daughter,  Shenita was one of been one of my biggest supporters through this nightmare.  She was always right there with me and was the one to record me ringing the bell this past January. Unfortunately that triumphant moment was short lived. In April just a short few months after that triumphant moment Shenita passed away of a ovarian cancer.  

Not only have I had to bear the weight trying to get back on my feet and dig myself out of a mountain of debut but also having to put to rest my beautiful daughter. Unfortunately my battle with cancer is not quite over as it has come back and I am currently back doing regular rounds of chemo. Cancer has taken so much from me but one thing I will not let it take from me is my hope,  I am never giving up!
