Our Story
Please Help Me Keep My Home While Battling COPD
My name is Vickie, and I’m 65 years old, living in St. Louis. I’ve been battling COPD for several years, and I’ve now reached stage 3 out of 4. With proper care, I still believe I have a few good years ahead of me — but right now, I’m struggling just to get through each day.
Because COPD makes even simple activities exhausting, I haven’t been able to work. I’m currently waiting out the five-month SSDI waiting period before I can receive any financial support. In the meantime, I’m doing everything I can to hold on, but the bills keep coming, and what scares me most is the possibility of losing my home.
I’ve rented the same house for the past ten years — a place I truly call home. I’ve never missed a rent payment or been late once. But now, with my health preventing me from working, I’m afraid I won’t be able to keep up until my SSDI back pay is released.
I’m not asking for much — just enough to cover rent and keep a roof over my head during this in-between time. The thought of losing my home, especially with my health in this condition and no one nearby to help me move or start over, is overwhelming both mentally and physically.
Any help you can give, no matter how small, would mean the world to me. It would give me a sense of stability and hope during one of the hardest times of my life. Even if you can’t donate, just taking the time to read my story and share it means more than I can say.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness and support.
With gratitude,
Vickie Rawlins
Family Updates
I am still waiting on SSDI Backpay, but I am hopeful things will get better. If I give up now COPD wins! I'm not a quitter and I have things still to do in this life. Quitting is not an option.
